Richard O’Connor is a Shareholder in the Firm and one of its founding partners in 1967. For several years prior to his present areas of practice, Mr. O’Connor was a litigator specializing in civil trial work with a prominent Hartford firm. He is now principally engaged in labor and employment law on behalf of management, educational law, and hospital law; and litigation involving employment, education, commercial, and construction law. In that context he represents a variety of public and private employers, educational institutions, school districts, and hospitals in their general business operations, and in particular, litigation. In those areas, Mr. O’Connor has considerable experience in Union organizational efforts, unfair labor practices, collective bargaining, and arbitration. He is familiar with general business operations, employee/employer relations, and the particular circumstances involving municipal employers, school districts, medical institutions and institutions of higher learning.

Dick practices regularly before federal and state administrative and regulatory agencies, and the State and Federal Courts. He has frequently acted as a fact-finder, mediator, and arbitrator in the public and private sectors, and has been appointed to the Governor’s panel for the resolution of educational disputes. He was the Regional Coordinator for the National Manufacturers Association Committee on Labor Reform, a member of the Magistrate’s Reappointment Review Committee for the United States District Court, and an arbitrator with the American Arbitration Association in commercial and labor matters. Mr. O’Connor is a frequent speaker, author, and contributor to professional journals on the subject matters described above.

Following service as a naval officer and his graduation from law school, Mr. O'Connor served as a law clerk to the Honorable T. Emmet Clarie, Chief Judge in the United States District Court in Hartford.
